Samvat Rice Khichdi

Samvat rice (barnyard millet)
Cumin seeds
Black pepper
Chilli paste
Rock salt

Chaitra Navratri 2019 Day 3: Worship Goddess Chandraghanta, The Third Form of Goddess Durga

How to prepare:

  • Leave the samvat rice soaked in water, at least for an hour. Later, drain the excess water.
  • Now, heat a pan and 2 teaspoons of oil or ghee in it. Once the oil becomes hot, add cumin seeds in it and fry until its colour changes.
  • After that, add ½ teaspoon of crushed black pepper and chilli paste in the pan. After stirring, add potato cubes and cook it for approximately four minutes.
  • Now, add the soaked rice and stir it well. Also, add water as per your requirement and cover the pan.
  • Once the Samvat rice is cooked, add lemon juice and rock salt in it to serve. You can have it with curd too.

Apple Halwa


Cinnamon powder
Dry fruits
Vanilla extract

How to prepare:

  • Firstly, take 5 apples. Peel, core and dice them.
  • Now, heat a pan and add 2 teaspoon of ghee in it. Once the oil becomes hot, add diced apples and cook them for a few minutes. Make sure the pieces become soft and brown.
  • Now, add 1/2 cup of water in it and mash the apples. Also, add sugar as per your requirement.
  • Add vanilla extract and cinnamon powder in the mashed apples and stir well.
  • Remove mixture from the flame after it becomes thick. Serve after garnishing with fruits.

Coconut Laddoo


Fresh coconut
Desiccated coconut
Condensed milk
Cardamom powder

How to prepare:

  • Add 1 teaspoon of ghee in a heated pan. Now, add 2 cups of grated coconut in it and stir well for around 5 minutes keeping the flame low.
  • Now, add sweet condensed milk and a pinch of cardamom powder in the pan.
  • Stir the mixture well and let it cook until the consistency becomes thick.
  • Remove it from the flame and let the mixture cool for a while.
  • Now, make small balls of the mixture. You can dry fruits in it if you wish to.
  • Also, roll the balls in desiccated coconut.
  • Keep them in the refrigerator for some time and then you can have coconut laddoos.
